The International Centre for Cave Art, better known as Lascaux IV, is a must-see during your stay in the Dordogne. However, its popularity attracts many visitors. Here are our insider tips for enjoying this journey through time with complete peace of mind.

1. Choose the right time slot

To avoid the crowds, the golden rule is to arrive early or late.

•In the morning: Aim for the first tours as soon as it opens (often between 8:30 and 9:00 am). The atmosphere is calmer, and the morning light on the building is magnificent.

•At the end of the day: Time slots after 5:00 pm are often less popular with groups and families, offering a more intimate experience.

2. Opt for the "Prestige" or Night Tours

During peak season, Lascaux IV offers night tours by lamplight, or longer themed tours. It's an excellent way to discover the cave with a small group and a mysterious atmosphere.

3. Book online only

Don't wait until you arrive! By booking your tickets online several days in advance, you guarantee your entry time and avoid long queues at the ticket office.

4. Visit during your lunch break

Between 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm, most visitors stop to eat in the restaurants of Montignac. This is often a perfect "lull" to explore the digital spaces and the Lascaux Workshop gallery.

5. Take advantage of the off-season

If you can, visit Lascaux between November and March (outside of school holidays). There are very few visitors, and you'll almost feel like you have the cave all to yourself.
